The Imperfect Blog

WELCOME, my fellow FLAWED ones!

Posted by EHancock2 on June 29, 2012 at 5:45 AM

Welcome to the first blog entry of Edward Hancock II... a.k.a. ME! You'll come to know me soon enough, so I'll refrain from too much about me for right now.

As a writer and a Christian, I have long faced the decision as to how I would frame myself. How would I describe myself. Am I a Christian writer or am I a Christian who WRITES? The obvious answer to both is "Yes", but ultimately, it came down to which one I wanted to be. Yes, it came down to choosing one or the other. Am I a Christian Writer, one who writes devotionals, prayers and sermons? No. I am not. While I love God and have been known to TYPE Prayers out for friends directly on Facebook or into E-mails, my talents for actually writing something someone would want to read generally do not include devotionals. I'm many things; A theologian is not one of them.

Am I a Christian who writes stories that any Christian adult can sink their teeth into and be entertained? Yes, I am. That said, are my stories for all Christians? No. They aren't.

There are many different kinds of Christians. There are those who stick closely to a certain dogma and the accompanying set of rituals. (i.e. Catholic, Baptist, Methodist, etc.) There are others who stick closely to the Old Testament Law and acknowledge little of the New Testament except, perhaps, the Divinity of Jesus Christ. There are still others who contend that "being a good person" is enough. Let me say from the outset I AM NOT here to debate which way is right. I HAVE my thoughts, but my purpose is to increase my faith and walk closer to God, not bog myself down in rituals that do little other than show the outer world how spiritual I might think I am.

but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, SAT DOWN AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD, 13waiting from that time onward UNTIL HIS ENEMIES BE MADE A FOOTSTOOL FOR HIS FEET. 14For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified
Hebrews 10:12-14

Regardless your "religion", my stories will likely never appeal to you if you have never known deep, agonizing spiritual battles in your life. If you've always walked confidently in The Lord, or if you are a modern-day Pharisee, my books are not for you. My books are, as the title of this blog suggests, AN IMPERFECT BLOG for the IMPERFECT Christian. What makes an IMPERFECT CHRISTIAN? If the Bible says he has PERFECTED those who are BEING sanctified, is it biblical to say I am an IMPERFECT Christian? Yes, because I am imperfect in my PERFORMANCE, not my position as a Child of God. As the latter, I am perfected forever the moment I accept Jesus as my behavior.

THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THEM

AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD:

I WILL PUT MY LAWS UPON THEIR HEART,

AND ON THEIR MIND I WILL WRITE THEM,”

He then says, 17“AND THEIR SINS AND THEIR LAWLESS DEEDS

         I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE.”

18Now where there is forgiveness of these things, there is no longer any offering for sin.
Hebrews 10:16-18

However, being perfect in my position does not suddenly mean I am perfect in my actions. Temptation befalls every person walking on this earth. I dare say it seizes upon some to a greater degree than others.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.

Hebrews 4:15

And Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” And he replied, “Say it, Teacher.” “A moneylender had two debtors: one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. “When they were unable to repay, he graciously forgave them both. So which of them will love him more?” Simon answered and said, “I suppose the one whom he forgave more.” And He said to him, “You have judged correctly.”

“For this reason I say to you, her sins, which are many, have been forgiven, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little.”

Luke 7:40-43;47

“Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed[a] thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.  I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.’  But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’  I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Luke 18:10-14

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus

Romans 8:1

And so it is, dear readers, I ask but one thing of each of you as we undertake this journey together.

I ask that you remember I am not perfect. In your rememberance, pray for my spirit and my soul. I have waged many a battle in my life and the devil isn't through attacking me yet. But I find great personal joy in following that sentiment with the revelation that GOD is not finished with me either. And I've read the book. I know who wins in the end.

Till next time, this blog is brought to you by the letters W, E and H and by the number 2.
